CURLY HAIR
Make super-curly hair look entirely different by straightening it as you blow it dry. The straightening blow-dry technique is extremely popular right now and is a simple way to get a great look without chemical texturizing or relaxing.
The first step in straightening super-curly hair is to blot it dry. Never vigorously towel-dry curly, wet hair.
Use a leave-in conditioner to coat and protect the hair. Also apply a straightening product to support your efforts. Make sure you distribute the product through the hair evenly by combing from scalp to ends.
Start with a half-inch section in the nape. Using a boar-bristle round brush or flat brush, work up the head, making certain each section is dry and straight. Apply as much tension as necessary and don't be afraid of using heat.
Allow the hair to cool when it's still on the brush to prevent it from reverting curl.
If the hair air-dries as you work, it will become too curly. Spritz it down before blowing it straight and re-spritz with water when necessary.
Avoid using water-based hair sprays.
Once the hair is dry and straight, go over large sections with a flat iron to ensure that the style remains straight.
TALKING TO YOUR STYLIST
Getting the perfect haircut is all about communication. You talk. We listen. We offer leadership, knowledge and expertise and variety of style. Think about the following when talking to your stylist:
What do you like best about your hair?
How much time do you want to spend on your hair?
What don’t you like about it, what problems need to be addressed?
Do you have any parameters about your style?
Do you have any length considersations?
Do you have pictures that can help accurately describe your desired style?
FACE SHAPE
ROUND FACE
This face has about the same width as length. If you
have a round face, you want to elongate the face and give it more definition. Longer lengths
(below the chin) with face-framing layers work great. A deep side part also creates a
slimming illusion.
HEART FACE
This face is wider at the forehead and narrower at the chin and jaw. A deep side part with a
chin length cut balances this facial shape. Keep the style soft and add long layers around the
face. Small bangs also provide
a nice dimension.
OVAL FACE
In this well-proportioned face, the length is about one
and one-half times the width. What a treat to have this face shape because you can wear
almost any style.
SQUARE FACE
This face is defined by wide cheekbones, a broad forehead and a wide jaw line. Off-center
parts and face-framing layers work wonders with this facial shape. Rounder bangs help to
soften the edges.
PEAR FACE
This face is wider at the chin and jaw and narrower at the forehead. Width and height
balance this out. Bring attentions to the eyes by adding volume at the crown.
LONG FACE
This face has a length that is longer than width is wide. Shorter, chin-length layered styles
with a wide bang help to add necessary width to a very elongated face.
LARGE NOSE
Keep hair longer and add soft layers around the sides and the top of the head. Pair with soft
bangs.
VERTICAL OR HORIZONTAL
Quickly access your face by viewing it vertically and horizontally. If it moves to much either
direction, you should compensate with a cut that leads your eye the opposite way. For
example, if yours is too narrow, ask your stylist to build width into the hair style. If your facial
shape is too wide, you want to add more height.
WIDE FOREHEAD
To Balance the dominate width, consider bangs that are cut just long enough to balance the
width of the face.
NARROW FOREHEAD
Extend the width of the forehead with bangs that are cut back somewhat.
THICK NECK
Soften a less than swan-like neck with long layers and soft movement in and around the
neck area.
NARROW NECK
If you think this is an unattractive feature, try cutting your hair to just above the shoulders,
layering or bobbing it.
